EU Missions: Commission's first assessment & next steps

The Commission has made its first assessment of the EU Missions in a recently published Communication. It expresses the Commission’s support for the continuation of the 5 EU Missions with a proposed increase of budget to 11% of Pillar 2 from 2024 onwards (up from 10% currently). The Communication also launches preparations on a 6th EU Mission on the New European Bauhaus.

The conclusions of the Communication emphasize that during their first two years, the EU Missions  have supported the Commission's work on the European Green Deal, making Europe fit for the Digital Age, and Europe's Beating Cancer Plan

Background: The Horizon Europe Regulation requires the Commission to carry out an assessment of the first Missions by the end of 2023. The legal base sets out that any activity of Missions beyond 2023 is conditional on the outcome of the assessment process.

The Project SeafoodTomorrow is a project that is approved within the call BG-08-2017: Innovative sustainable solutions for improving the safety and dietary properties of seafood.

The three-year SeafoodTomorrow project brings together 34 partners. From Flanders, ILVO takes part in the project.They are responsible for setting up two databases which are the central point of the project to gather all the project data from analysis and assessement. ILVO is also leader of the workpackage dealing with authenticity, traceability and labelling. ILVO is also involved a the workpackage about novel food preparation. And in the managerial part, ILVO is head of the IPC- Intellectual Property Comité.
